The National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) is a leading disability organisation with 85 years’ (established in 1939) experience in enabling, supporting and enhancing the quality of life for persons with disabilities. We strive to make South Africa a country where persons with disabilities have access to equal opportunities and rights. Our goal is to ensure that people with disabilities attain their full rights as citizens through: • Advocating and facilitating inclusion, access and economic empowerment • Contributing to and influencing Government policies • Changing attitudes through sensitization and awareness programs We follow a rights-based approach within the framework of the social and human rights models of disability in its services to and in respect of persons with disabilities. We are instrumental in the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and the South African White Paper on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (WPRPD). Our Head Office is located in Gauteng, at 82 Andries Pretorius Road, Edenvale, from where we provide a national coordinating service and proactive forum for our affiliates, the nine provincial Associations for Persons with Disabilities (APDs). Our Vision: An all-inclusive and equitable society where the human rights of all are upheld and protected. Our Mission: Collaboration for social and economic inclusion of persons with disabilities through: Advocacy, Lobbying, Fundraising, Awareness, Research, Development, Services, Innovation and Partnerships We constantly seek innovative ways to overcome barriers and challenges experienced by persons with disabilities. To drive sustainable change, we engage, challenge and collaborate with a broad spectrum of stakeholders (government, private, public, civil society) to mobilise resources for advocacy & fundraising.
